ちょうど五月の半であった。市俄古の野球団が来て、早稲田で仕合が、連日のように行われた。帝大の仕合がある日だった。自分も久し振りに、野球が見たい気になった。学生時代には、好球家の一人であった自分も、この一二年殆ど見て居なかったのである。
It was the middle of May. A baseball team from Chicago had come, and games were being played at Waseda almost every day. That day the Imperial University was playing. For the first time in a long while, I felt like watching baseball. As a student I had been quite a fan, but in the last year or two I had hardly seen a game.
