Fourth section. At six, the parents trained their children in work that would be of some use to them. The boys went to the tianguis, the markets, to pick up the grains of maize spilled on the ground, and beans and other scraps that traders had dropped. The girls were set to spinning and other useful tasks. That way, from then on, these tasks would fill their time and they would not be idle. This kept them from the bad habits that idleness usually brings. At each meal the boys got a tortilla and a half.
